Medical Respite

Medical Respite: Connects. Assesses. Navigates.

Medical Respite is a game-changing program that aims to ensure health equity for homeless people while also stabilizing their physical and mental health conditions. The program will contact residents after they have been discharged from the hospital or emergency room, assess their medical and housing needs, and assist them with housing placement and stabilization. The National Association of Health Care for the Homeless Council (NAHCHC) established the program’s standards for Medical Respite programs serving homeless people in 2016.

Medical Respite services are provided in the most accessible and least restrictive setting possible, ideally in a community-based residential setting that de-emphasizes institutional culture and keeps residents as close to their communities of origin as possible.

Medical Respite is a partnership with AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana.
